Frequently asked questions

What overtime rate do UK firefighters receive?

The national 2026 firefighter role table publishes overtime at time-and-a-half for eligible roles. Local agreements and the circumstances of the duty can differ, so the calculator also accepts a custom multiplier.

Is the take-home figure a payslip calculation?

No. It applies a chosen marginal Income Tax rate, employee National Insurance and an optional pension percentage to the overtime payment. PAYE is cumulative, so payroll may differ.

Where can I find my published hourly rate?

Use the July 2026 pay scales or the salary calculator. A competent firefighter is listed at £18.43 an hour and £27.65 for overtime from 1 July 2026.
