Set the working fraction

The national hourly-rate calculation uses a 42-hour week.

How the pro-rata calculation works

The tool multiplies the selected national annual basic salary by your FTE percentage. A 60% contract therefore models 60% of the full-time basic rate. It then adds the separate additions and overtime you enter before estimating deductions.

Where local terms matter

A real flexible-working agreement controls duty times, annual leave, public holidays, pensionable pay, training and overtime availability. On-call employment is a different structure built from a retainer and paid activity, so use the dedicated on-call pay calculator for that route.

Frequently asked questions

Is part-time pension membership based on full-time salary?

The benefit and contribution rules depend on actual pensionable earnings and scheme regulations. The model uses actual estimated pensionable pay for the contribution band.

Can part-time firefighters work overtime?

Potentially, but the trigger and rate depend on the contract and national/local terms. Confirm with payroll or HR.
