Application and online assessment

The initial form may test eligibility, qualifications, work history and motivation. Some services add situational judgement, numerical, verbal or mechanical-reasoning assessments. Complete only the practice material relevant to the provider named by the service.

Interview and assessment

Interviewers look for evidence that the candidate understands the modern firefighter role across response, prevention and protection. Strong examples describe the situation, the candidate's own actions, the result and what was learned, without inventing an operational story.

Physical, medical and pre-employment checks

Fitness and job-related tests confirm safe capability. A medical assessment considers the role's demands and the individual's information. References, right-to-work, identity and other checks follow the service's policy. Do not conceal information that the form asks for.

How long does firefighter recruitment take?

It varies by campaign and can take months because several assessment and pre-employment stages must be scheduled.

Can I apply to more than one service?

Usually yes, subject to each campaign's rules and your ability to meet location or response requirements.
