Prepare question families
Expect themes around motivation, public service, teamwork, communication, inclusion, judgement, learning and resilience. Map real examples to the behaviours named in the candidate pack rather than memorising model answers.
Use a clear evidence structure
Set the context briefly, explain your responsibility, spend most time on your own actions and finish with result and reflection. Quantify outcomes where natural, but do not inflate them.
Show you understand the whole role
Modern firefighters respond to incidents and also work in prevention, protection, training and community settings. Demonstrate informed motivation for that complete job and the service’s local priorities.
Frequently asked questions
Should every answer be a workplace example?
No. Education, volunteering, caring, sport and community experience can provide valid evidence if it answers the behaviour.
Can I use the same example twice?
It may be allowed, but a broader evidence bank usually demonstrates range and reduces repetition.
